Union Rural Development Secretary Nagendra Nath Sinha reviews schemes in Telangana

Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar informed the Secretary Rural Development government of India Nagendra Nath Sinha that the innovative schemes taken up by the Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao such as Palle Pragathi, Haritha Haaram, etc. have resulted in the all round development of villages in state.

Union RD Secretary on Monday took stock of the various rural development schemes being implemented by the state government.

Speaking on the occasion, Somesh Kumar stated that Palle Pragathi programme has ushered in remarkable transformation in greenery and sanitation in the villages. This has also helped in reduction of diseases in the villages. Every village now has a Palle Prakruthi Vanam, nursery, Vaikuntadhamam, compost unit and a tractor, he said and added that every month an amount of Rs 227 crores is being released to Gram Panchayats in the state.

The CS informed the Central RD Secretary that while there were only 8,684 Gram Panchayats before the formation of Telangana, the Chief Minister had converted tribal thandas and hamlets into gram panchayats which has resulted in the number of GPs to increase to 12,769. To increase the green cover in the state, Telangana ku Haritha Haaram programme has been taken up. The sarpanches and Gram Panchayat Secretaries have been made responsible to ensure that 85 percent plants survive.

Miyawaki plantation has been taken up in 10,472 gram panchayats. Chief Secretary stated that 547 Brihat Palle Prakruthi Vanams in an area of not less than 10 acres have been set up in the state so far.

Referring to the SHG movement in the state, Chief Secretary said that 4,39,648 self help groups are being extended bank loans to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore towards development of the SHGs and to ensure that they become financially strong. The MGNREGS programme is also being successfully implemented in state, Somesh Kumar added.

State Secretary Rural Development Sandeep Kumar Sultania made a power point presentation and explained in detail, the rural development programmes of the state government. Union Rural Development Secretary complemented the state government for successfully implementing various rural development programmes in the state. Commissioner Rural Development Sharath also participated in the programme.
